The Great Captain Costentenus
There’s really not much on the history of the Captain. What I come to believe is that everything there is to know about his origin is fabricated to sell him as an attraction at P.T. Barnum’s Circus.
His tattoos are of Burmese origin and depict animals native to Burma and eastern mythology.
He claims that he was captured by island natives and tattooed as punishment for 3 months. Another story is that he did it all to himself. Which would be nearly impossible if he wanted to cover his back. Either way, the work looks amazing.
Below is an article from the NY Times of the Captain getting beat up in a bar. Thought it was kinda funny they have stuff like that on archive.
